March 30, 2011

ALIVE! One night of watering and Tada, back to life. Literally, watered it before heading to bed, woke up and took the picture. Not joking, our plant is amazing.

March 29th, 2011

Failure. March 9th we introduced you to our lone plant. It was dying. We told you of its resilience and to be sure to check back soon to see it in its full glory. Twenty days later...its still dying. I decided to change its fate and water it like crazy. Check out March 30th!

Slumber Party

Every Sunday Sarah spends the night on my "poor man's trundle bed."

The weekly pillow talk cannot be beat!

Winter Camping

The most awesomely miserable (or miserably awesome) weekend of my life. After sleeping in a tent, in 13 degree weather, and waking to find my entire sleeping bag lined with frost, I was sure I was going to die. But when else is it perfectly acceptable to roast socks over an open fire, think nothing of wiping snot all over your gloves, wear a hat for 3 days straight, and not brush your teeth or apply deodorant for the entire weekend? Only in the winter WILDERNESS.

March 26, 2011

Extra Point. Too bad getting an extra point for best creation with your settlers pieces during the game isn't true. John's robot was pretty impressive. It wouldn't have helped anyway. Liza dominated.

March 25, 2011

Yum! A wonderful night of Crunchy Asian Chicken Wraps, Soft Pretzels and Banana Peanut Butter Pie and a movie. Wonderful Friday night!

March 24, 2011

Science RULES!

It was the Cambridge Science Fair today! This student raced a battery operated car against a solar powered car and then compared the types of energy. On his poster, he compared chemical energy to Derrick Rose because it is fast and powerful. He compared solar energy to Miss Kistler because it is slower but long lasting. LOVED IT! He won first place, by the way. (Don't worry, I was not the judge).

Sleepy Eyes

Probably because I woke up mid-sleep remembering that we didn't take a picture today. Thankfully I woke before midnight, and the day was saved. Can't say it's the most flattering picture, but it works.

Sweatpants.
When we met Alicia, she did not even wear sweatpants in her own house before bed time.
Today, she showed up for dinner and games with friends in sweatpants.
Positive peer pressure at its best.
Congratulations.
(Next thing we'll know she will be singing karaoke by herself and dancing on stage with no inhibitions;)

Brooklynn Renee.

Born at 5:13pm on March 21, 2011.

Weighing 8 lbs 2 oz and 19 inches long.

She came into the world just in time for Aunt Katie to meet her before heading back to Chicago for work the next morning.

Precious.

March 20, 2011

Candlelight.

Not even a power outage will stop a Sunday night Settlers game with the family while waiting on the baby to arrive.

(And yes, Kelly was playing, and no, losing did not make her go into labor.)

Porch Camping

In preparation for winter backpacking next weekend, we needed to test our bags. No better way than to sleep out on the balcony under the stars...er...smog. Other than the midnight street fight, and waking up every half hour or so to double check that you haven't been stolen by a crazy, the night was a success!

Syringe Painting.
Step 1. Cover the wall and floor with paper.
Step 2. Cover yourself with plastic hospital wear -
ie: isolation gown, gloves, booties.
Step 3. Fill the syringes with paint.
Step 4. Squirt to your hearts content.
Step 5: Add your own flair with a paintbrush.
Best coping activity ever.

March 17, 2011

Hospital Holidays.
In Children's hospitals we do things a little differently.
Whoever said syringes can't be fun?
I am pretty sure they use them to decorate the Little Debbie Cakes too!
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

March 16, 2011

Marathon.
And the training begins, kinda.
It was WAY to nice outside not to go for a run.
Here we are...sweat and all.
P.S. We ARE both training for the marathon and running for a great cause. Check out our websites at - http://support.worldvision.org/goto/KatieRabe

Lizas Pants.

They had a hole in them.

She still wore them, knowing that had a hole.

Did not phase her one bit when Gretchen pointed out this hole.

Interesting.

Project Runway: Hospital Fashion

Today's activity was a hit.

We made our own Hospital Fashion including gowns, hats, gloves, and shoes.

A seven year old boy made an outfit for me...he was way to cool to create one for himself.

He then made a runway, decorated the playspace, and provided music for the Hospital Fashion Show.

Flower gloves will be the next fad, I promise.

March 13, 2011

Canyon-wear.

I am so glad Chicago Parent magazine had a section on 'What to wear while hiking the Grand Canyon.'

The white swimsuit will look great with my new hiking boots and neck cooler.

Sweet tan lines too.

March 12, 2011

Coming soon!

March 11, 2011

Karaoke.

Checked out Simpson's Bar just around the corner for their Karaoke on Friday nights.

Adam and Laura brought down the house with some Mariah 'Always Be My Baby.'

EVERYONE joined in when you started singing.

It was like the movies.

GOLDEN BURRITOS!
That's exactly what I shrieked to the worker when I got in line and saw the new tin foil. I'm still not sure why the concept was so exciting. Chipotle makes everything a little brighter.

A Day in the Life of Our Plant
It gets neglected and forgotten. It begins to wilt. It continues to be forgotten. Finally, when it is nearly dead, we remember it's existance. We frantically and diligently nurse it back to health for a few days. It is strong and healthy. The cycle restarts. (Check back in a couple days for a perky plant picture).

March 8, 2011

Neighbors
We have begun meeting with one another in the neighborhood to pray and to brainstorm ways to encourage and serve those around us. Our first meeting was today, and we had some awesome discussions. We are really excited to see how God works in Tri-Taylor!

March 7, 2011

Cooper.

Cooper does not have an easy life.
In fact, everything that can go wrong has.
- Cooper has diabetes.
- Cooper gets an X-Ray.
- Cooper gets a CT scan.
- Cooper gets an MRI.
- Cooper gets an ultrasound.
- Cooper gets his port accessed

Thankfully Cooper is happy to share his experiences with the rest of the world.

Missed
It happened. March 6 was a day with no picture. The picture to the left was actually taken days later when we tried to reinact what we must have looked like when we realized what we had (not) done.

March 5, 2011

Triplets

After trying on numerous different types of hiking boots, the three of us came to the same conclusion: You can't beat the Vasques. Now all we need are matching floppy hats and convertable pants.

ION

Positively entertaining.

(Criminal Minds Marathons - THE best thing in the world)

March 3, 2011

The Yoga Ball

Trunk extensions may have become our new favorite workout routine. After trying them at a class at the gym (which resulted in me accidentally sliding off the ball, crashing into Katie's legs and knocking her off of her ball), we have begun practicing at home. It is impossible to complete a full set without cracking up. Working out is so fun.

March 2, 2011

Flooded

We are no strangers to flooding. Our classrooms and houses have flooded over six times. 2011 was looking good until today. An "unknown" source of water flooded our school library. I was hoping 2011 would be relatively flood free. We are getting insanely good at saving valuables from water.

March 1, 2011

Dr. Seuss
What better way to start off Child Life Month at the hospital than a Dr. Seuss themed party... complete with The Cat in the Hat, Thing 1 and Thing 2?

February 28, 2011

Hands
In places here, and foreign lands
The rainbow can be seen in hands
That makes the world a better place
A rainbow of the human race.

February 26, 2011

Laser Tag.

It was Emma's birthday, so naturally we thought what would be more fun than playing laser tag?

We called ahead to make reservations.
They told us they were booked until after 8pm with little kids birthday parties...

Happy 28th Emma.

February 25, 2011

Addiction?

Yep, twice in three days. Stop judging. It was Emma's birthday and she had a half off coupon. Who can say no to that?

February 24, 2011

Pictureless

Realized late one night we were pictureless for the day. The gnome just wouldn't stop staring at me...so I stared right back.

And then took a picture.

February 23, 2011

Chipotle.
Never underestimate the POWER of a burrito.
Especially if that burrito is buy one get one free.

Amro

He comes twice a week for tutoring and inevitably says some of the most hysterical things. Some of my favorites:

"Where is your family? Are they on a field trip?"
- after walking in and seeing that Katie was not home.

Me: "You know who Sarah is right? She is usually here when you come over."
Amro: "Yes, she is your husband."

February 20, 2011

Unpredictable

That's the word for the weather this February. Nearly set a record with the blizzard at the beginning of the month. Then we hit a near record high a few days ago. Saw a few people with shorts and sandals. And now it's raining.

Good thing we bought umbrella hats from a man on the side of the road.
